A novel approach to zero accidents
Watch the movie of this innovation.
Over the last ten or so years, a number of large-scale initiatives (Vigiroute, the Traffic Man, the Attention travaux (Works Ahead) theatre play, the International Prevention Day, etc.) have enabled Eurovia’s Rhône-Alpes Auvergne delegation to reduce its accident frequency rate from almost 26 (in 2002) to 6.95 (in 2012). To continue making progress, the company is now targeting individual high-risk behaviour, which is responsible for 96% of work accidents.
The conclusive results obtained by the Bourg-en-Bresse agency in 2009 led to the approach being adopted by six other agencies. In all cases, it resulted in a significant fall in the number of workplace accidents and a spectacular change in the way general foremen managed safety with their teams. The employees themselves say it was the first time since they joined the company that they really felt management was concerned about their security and health and wellbeing.
