France: the urban renovation plan for Mont Saint-Martin in Nemours
The district of Mont Saint-Martin, which was built between 1965 and 1979 as part of an initiative to prioritise urban development in specific zones, accommodates 75% of the city’s social housing stock over a 44-hectare area. The district is home to nearly 5,300 people, which is almost half the city’s population.
This rehabilitation effort was designed to repair the main thoroughfare (in 2012 and 2013), create a social centre (in 2015 and 2016), upgrade the environment around existing buildings (from 2012 to 2015), and develop roads and utility networks for the reconstruction of housing units following a demolition programme (in 2014 and 2015). To date, one housing-unit reconstruction phase remains to be completed.
