Eurovia rebuilt 7,000 m² of cobblestone pavement on the Place de l'Etoile in July and August 2004 and is continuing the renovation project in the summer of 2005. This is the first complete renovation of the famous Parisian square since the Liberation of Paris; the last cobblestone paving took place in 1947.
The Eurovia Ile-de-France agency in Aubervilliers, which specialises in paving slabs and which had previously worked in Montmartre in particular, carried out the work. A traditional cobblestone laying technique was used. The teams used 8x10 cm cobblestones in three different colours (grey, green, pink), laying them in a mosaic depicting a star. Joints were made with chippings of the same colour.
