bike route in the Marne valley
Work on the bike route in the Marne valley began in late January 2014. Located along the grand European route running from Paris to Strasbourg to Prague, the bike path will eventually connect Lac du Der to the border of the Aisne region in northern France.
Conseil Général de la Marne (the general council of the Marne region) awarded the segment from Condé-sur-Marne to Cumières to Eurovia Reims. This represents the first 25 kilometres of a 45-kilometre section running along a canal that runs alongside the Marne river.
Work is scheduled to take place over a 10-month period and consists mainly of building lanes and an aluminium footbridge. The main challenge in this project is due to the lack of access roads; in certain areas, access roads are located as far away as 4 kilometres.
