United States - Work completed on Interstate 4
Work was recently completed by Orlando Paving Company on a 4.5 mile long high profile section of Interstate 4 in Orange County, Florida. This section of Interstate 4 is a major transportation and tourist corridor between Tampa and Orlando with over 160,000 vehicles passing through the area on any given day.
This route provides access to all of Orlando's theme parks including Disney World, SeaWorld Orlando, and Universal Studios, as well as Florida's Turnpike.
The project consisted of milling and resurfacing the westbound lanes of I-4 from just East of Conroy Road to the Sand Lake Road overpass. It also included the removal and installation of guardrail at various locations as well as Traffic Management System signalization work. The project was a great success and completed to the full satisfaction of the Florida Department of Transportation. There were a few challenges overcome along the way that included short duration working hours as well as maintaining traffic flow at busy and complex intersections and ramps. Most importantly, there were zero safety incidents.
The project was completed under the direction of Joseph Sustaita-Construction Manager, Cody Montgomery-Construction Engineer, Steve Lanza-Superintendent, Ferrel Bodiford-Paving Foreman, and Michael Smith-QC manager.
Key figures include:
-7500 tons of FC-5 Friction
-10,300 tons of Superpave mix
-192,000 Square Yards of Milling
- 170 contract calendar days
