Product and process offering
In efforts to design roads and traffic zones built with increasingly environmentally friendly renewable materials, Eurovia has developed a new product, a plant-based binder called Sequoia®.
In response to the need to protect the environment and reduce energy consumption, the roadwork industry worldwide is increasingly focused on lower-temperature asphalt production. With a pioneering process, launched in 2003, Eurovia has taken the lead in this area with over 900,000 tonnes of paving implemented, including 460,000 tonnes in 2009. Today, all of Eurovia's warm-mix processes are offered in one product line known as Tempera®.
Eurovia produces aggregates through extraction at alluvial sandpits and gravel pits, on land or at sea, by crushing limestone and igneous rock, and by recycling recovered materials. The Company has a network of 300 quarries worldwide that produce 90 million tonnes of aggregate annually and is the leader in France in this sector. Aggregates can be raw or recycled industrial materials (household waste bottom ash, slag, coal schist, by-products of our activities: recycled asphalt and concrete aggregates and gravel). Whenever possible, Eurovia recovers and re-uses materials on site through reprocessing in efforts to limit raw material consumption and disposal.
Hydraulic gravel is made from a mix of gravel, hydraulic binder and water and produced at mixing units. Activating or retarding admixtures can also be used in the process.
The binder can be made from cement, slag, flyash, hydraulic road binders, etc.
These materials are most often used in road sub-base layers.
Eurovia Beton, a Eurovia subsidiary, builds concrete urban and airport roads in Europe.
Other specialized Eurovia subsidiaries perform addition waterproofing works:
- Geomembranes for ultimate waste storage centers and basins
- Collection and disposal of liquid discharge (leachate) and gaseous discharge (biogas)
- Hydraulic works, rain catchment and storage basins, aggressive effluent storage basins
- Car parks and buildings using sealing resins and sheets
Most waterproofing solutions for engineering structure decks must be applied manually, an extremely time-consuming process. Given the wear to which these structures are subjected, only state-of-the-art waterproofing solutions can be used.
Eurovia has developed revolutionary products and processes in this area, leading to the automation of certain tasks and faster application rates, or access to very isolated worksites. These innovations are shared by all Eurovia entities to ensure optimal waterproofing of engineering structures in all countries where the Company operates.
Soprevia, a joint Soprema and Eurovia venture, recovers and recycles by-products or waste from industrial, demolition, and building and infrastructure repair activities to produce sealing membranes.
