[3/2/2020] The transformation of the seafront at La Grande-Motte is under way
The seafront, which includes 3 hectares of beach, is truly this resort’s showcase, but it has not been renovated since its construction in the 1960s and ’70s with the exception of some cosmetic work in recent decades. Renovating the forum, refurbishing the boardwalk and making it safer by adding a new seawall, installing new LED lighting, building seven new access points, replacing the urban furniture, creating green spaces, and redeveloping storefront terraces—these major works were launched in September 2019 and will continue for nearly two years until June 2021. The project will be suspended at all sites during the summer period to allow the commune to welcome the 120,000 annual tourists in optimal conditions.
Eurovia teams will work in collaboration with Sols Méditerranée on behalf of the architect Guillemin and the prime contractor Gaxieu to build, among other structures, a “sand-repelling” wall and rebuild the riprap wall as well as a large portion of the blue-coloured concrete floor. Work began in October 2019 and will be completed in June 2021.
