Colombie britannique : remplacement d’un pont dans un environnement extrême

[1/14/2021] British Columbia: replacing a bridge in a challenging environment

Since May 2020, Coquitlam Ridge Constructors Ltd. (Eurovia BC) has been working on a project to replace a bridge located on Highway 6 in British Columbia—a North-South highway that runs from the Canada-U.S. border to the city of Vernon (440 kilometres northeast of Vancouver)—for the BC Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure.

The bridge is an ageing structure that spans Cortiana Creek, a stream located some 40 kilometres east of Cherryville, at the northern end of this highway. Teams from Coquitlam Ridge Constructors Ltd. are busy replacing this engineering structure as well as rebuilding 500 metres of roadway and reinforcing the channel.

Since the worksite is located at an altitude of 1,300 metres, at the summit of the Monashee Pass, the project requires complex work-sequencing. Teams have a narrow weather window to work with and must also take into account the stream’s yearly flooding and temperatures as low as -20 °C.

In these natural surroundings, every effort is made to protect streams and the habitats of the region’s endemic species.

The project should be completed in June 2021.
